About Afterimage

Afterimage focuses on the lavish extravagance of the fireworks festival. Fireworks are a popular subject for amateur photographers, and much effort is expended in ensuring that residual smoke does not enter the photographic frame. When photographing a fireworks event I time my exposures in order to capture only the smoky after-effects. The clues to the origin of these spectacular cloud formations lie in the puffs of smoke that retain the shape and configuration of their fleeting moments of glory. While fireworks are undeniably captivating, their detrimental effects on air quality are seldom discussed. As the grandiose fireworks display is quickly reduced to smoke it is transformed into an ephemeral relic of our collective impact on our environment. This body of work was exhibited at Galerie B-312 in Montréal and at Grave in Victoriaville, both in 2008.
